Promptless

Promptless suggests doc updates when your product changes. You review, edit, and ship.

Promptless drafts against your Vale configuration and won't hand you content that violates your style guide.

⚙️ How Promptless uses Vale

Vale runs on the draft, before it reaches your review queue.

01

Sync

Downloads the external style packages your config references, if they aren't already in your repository.

02

Lint

Lints every prose file it creates or substantially edits.

03

Fix

Fixes findings at or above your MinAlertLevel, then weighs other findings against the voice in your docs.

When you connect a doc collection, Promptless looks for .vale.ini or vale.ini in your docs repo and lints with whatever it finds. Set the path by hand if your config lives somewhere other than the root.

Vale is one of several gates on a Promptless docs update, alongside persona reviews, broken-link checks, Doc Detective tests, and your existing CI jobs. Promptless iterates on suggestions until the content clears all of them.

Mautic, the open-source marketing automation project, runs Promptless on both its user and developer documentation, with Vale enabled on each. Its .vale.ini sets MinAlertLevel = suggestion, builds on Google's style package, and adds a vocabulary of its own. Both repos are public, as are Promptless's style-conforming doc updates.
